A Rule of Life

A rule of life is a simple statement of intention to practice the rhythms and habits that support your relationship with God and spiritual formation. The rules are practical and of your choosing. They provide a guiding structure that moves you toward loving God and others while honoring your limitations and God-given desires. Each rule is a brief statement of practices that support your walk with God. Prayerfully consider how they will aid you in your daily life. An example of a simple rule of life:

  • Rise at 6 am for morning prayer and devotions

  • The Examen Prayer before Bedtime

  • Weekly service to the church or community

  • Half-yearly 24-hour silent retreat

  • Annual themed retreat with a group

A rule of life is adjusted annually to reflect the seasons and limitations of life.
